After all you’re being told this by the most important people in your life. So we’ve been repeatedly told the wrong things about our life and who we are.
The only process that works to make permanent change is repetition. Whatever the brain hears over and over again it will eventually believe. You are getting brainwashed and the most powerful brainwasher is YOU. The key to success is repetition. If you listen to enough good input,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], your brain will have no choice but to believe. It will begin to believe those good thoughts and eventually lead to a good life.
It seems that the human mind is incapable of not thinking; at least on a subconscious level. At about 55000 thoughts per day one has to admit we spend an inordinate amount of time thinking,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. But that is what makes us human.
I’ve purchased and read dozens and dozens of books over the past 5 years. From "Think and Grow Rich" to "The Science of Getting Rich", and they are all great books. They tell you great philosophies about life, but the one thing I found missing were the step by step instructions.

Roughly 45-50% of the US population set New Year’s resolutions. This is phenomenal. Yet, what’s remarkable is that come February, March most New Year’s resolutions are gone by the wayside. In this article we explore some ideas to consider before you start which could help ensure your resolutions are kept and your goals are achieved.

The traditional methods used to set goals are often ineffective. The reason most people fail to realise their goals is that their goals are boring and uninspiring in the first place. Don’t sweat the small stuff. You need something that’s gonna have you jumping out of bed in the morning with exhilaration. Big goals require you to raise your game. They require you to step up. You’re actually more likely to strive to achieve some big audacious goals than some small boring ones. Indeed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it’s not important that you know how to achieve the BIG goal. The “how” will show up in due course. The added benefit of BIG goals is the journey you are taken on and the personal development required in order to achieve them. Setting small attainable goals is fine but best done as part of an overall BIG goal objective. For example, you’re more likely to keep a short-term goal (e.g. save 10% of your salary) if it’s part of your overall big goal (e.g. become a millionaire in 5 years time).
2. Are You Engaging Your Feelings?
If you can attach emotions and feelings to your goals, this will anchor them deep in your being. Feelings are the secret ingredient of successful goal setting. This is somehow overlooked in most goal setting methods. Writing down lists of goals on a piece of paper rarely sparks our emotions. However, describing and connecting with how one would feel (joyful, fulfilled, connected, wealthy, spiritual, proud, at peace, relieved,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], euphoric, etc) as a result of achieving a goal (i.e. the outcome) allows us to connect with our deeper selves. Some call this deeper part of us divine energy, source energy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], spirit, immortality, God, etc. Really what you call it is irrelevant. What’s important is that you connect back up to that “something”. By associating feelings with our goals we connect with our deeper selves and our deepest desires in life rather than merely things to do on a list.
I once heard a guy talking about sales techniques and he asked people in the audience, what it was they were selling. People taught they were selling all kinds of products or services but actually what he said people were selling was actually feelings i.e. how the product or service made the person feel. I see goals we set for ourselves just like products we desire but what we really desire is the outcome, how it makes us feel.
Feelings elevate us from goal setting automatons into human beings driven by spirit/energy and a deeper purpose. The real benefit of adding emotions to our goals is that when we practice feeling the emotional outcome of the goal (before it has even happened) it removes disbelief and doubt from the goal setting equation. In a way it spiritualises the goal and you are drawing out your true self from within.
3. Do You Believe Without Doubt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
This is most often the missing ingredient in all goal setting. Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, will forever be remembered for writing, "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it will achieve." The key word here is “believe”. As well as conceiving in your mind’s eye the circumstances and outcomes of your goals and achievement, you must believe you can do it in the first place. It’s not important whether anyone else believes or not, just you. You must be congruent,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], single-minded. One-directional certainty is required. Belief is the missing ingredient in most goal setting. There can be absolutely no doubt in your mind but that you can achieve the goal. The more you believe, the more life-force you infuse; the faster your desired outcome will come about.

In addition to forcing goals upon themselves people sometimes set goals that are not in line with their values. Values tend to reflect your upbringing. Listen to your own inner voice. Decide what is uniquely important to you?
For example, there’s little point making one of your goals as “starting my own business” if deep down inside you don’t see yourself as an entrepreneur/business person. Everyone prioritize their values differently. For some family,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], friends, relationship are higher on their hierarchy of values whilst for others it could be creativity, personal accomplishment, wealth etc.
Your values dictate your destiny. Ultimately, you will do what’s highest in your values. If your goals and values are aligned and you take action you will succeed. If you are unclear on what your values ACTUALLY are then it could be a very useful exercise to sit down, think about, write down and clarify your values and see if your goals fit with them. Many of the stated results of the stimulant medication are too subjective, and Barkley states clearly that, "an improved ability to master increasingly difficult or higher-level academic material, such as that assessed in achievement tests, has -not- been demonstrated.
Here we have an example that it would not have been as a result of stimulant medication if we see academic progress. Barkley also says that 'low and moderate doses of methylphenidate do reduce the frequency of aggression and noncompliance in groups of children but have no appreciate effect on either direction on prosocial or nonsocial behaviors." So, I will acknowledge that stimulants can help with short-term behavioral inhibition, but what about long term? This is my main concern, with the side effects and without evidence of a long-term result and without knowledge of long-term results on growth and cardiovascular development, is this really the best option? Barkley states, " Few studies employing rigorous methodology have evaluated the long term efficacy of stimulant medication. Those that have examined the issue have generally found little advantage of medication over no medication when evaluated over extended periods (Pelham, 1985, Weiss & Hechtman, 1993) Children who had been on drugs but were off at the time of follow-up were not found to differ in any important respect from those who had never received pharmacotherapy."
If Strattera affects the norepinephrine system, then it would seem evident that the possibility of such Tourette's like behavior could also become manifest in some children using Strattera. Therefore, though Strattera is being marketed in the fashion of being a non-stimulant drug, its ill effects are quite similar to that manifested by the stimulant medications. It is interesting to note that before Strattera was actually placed on the market and had just received FDA approval that the stocks for Eli Lilly rose 6% at the announcement (CBS Marketwatch, November 27, 2002). Lilly is aware that it will profit highly by being able to market a drug as a non-stimulant (though its ill effects are similar), that is not a Schedule II drug thus less subject to scrutiny and regulation. Hemant K. Shah, an independent analyst qouted in an AP Health News Report (August 15, 2002) states that Strattera's market potential is large at a time when Eli Lilly is seeking to offset recent setbacks. , "Parents who have refused stimulant dangers because of their knowledge of the hazards involved will now be coerced to utilize Strattera being led to believe it is somehow safer because it does not fall into the category of a stimulant/ Schedule II drug.

The Eli Lilly company has been marketing a new drug for those who are labeled as ADHD known as Strattera. This drug is purported to be a non-stimulant medication, however the side effects are similar. Rather than effecting the dopamine system as do the stimulants such as methylphenidate and dextroamphetamine, it works upon the norepinephrine neurotransmitter. Strattera is considered a Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Norepinephrine is the brain's adrenalin. Norephinephrine is involved in the increased rate and force of the heart muscle, constriction of heart muscles, pulmonary function (Hedaya, 1999).
If these functions are increased, it would be evident that Strattera could produce possible untoward effects on the cardiovascular system. It is interesting to note that in the safety information that Eli Lilly provides on its website, it refers to possible hazards to those who have heart disease or high blood pressure. Information provided by Eli Lilly accompanying prescriptions of this drug note the possibility of tachycardia, and increased blood pressure. Tourette's disorder, though the etiology is not fully known is being examined as difficulties arising in the metabolism of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine. it is known that stimulant drugs can produce Tourette's like behavior in some children (Breggin,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 1998).
I have had instances of being kicked, and even bitten by children going through behavioral difficulties, but at the same time, I found methods to help a child be able to deal with behaviors and to have progress while at the same time encouraging the child's own responsibility and sovereignty, and working on the creative strengths of the child. Greenspan comments, "working with the strengths of a child can create motivation." A child needs to be able to recognize and be motivated to change behaviors and work on strengths. Even Wender states that getting a child to 'label' behaviors is effective, that a child must recognize what is appropriate and what is not, and that parents should not encourage the idea that because the medication was wearing off or so forth that such excuses a level of knowledge and responsibility for certain behaviors. In my experiences,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I would argue that a child often has complete knowledge of some of his or her behaviors and may develop a manipulative manner and 'test' the parent and find various triggers and weaknesses where he the parent will give in to his immediate desire. Some may take the view that the potential for progress outweighs the potential side effects.
This is where I disagree, and feel it better to avoid that which would cause any side effects, that psychotherapy alone can manage the difficulties.
